Being fit starts with eating a healthy, balanced diet. Make sure you eat
lots of different foods to give you all the things your body needs. If you
think mealtime is boring, then make it fun!
Fit Kid, Skateboarding Sam, likes to help mom and dad with dinner in the
kitchen one night a week. Everyone takes turns deciding what to make and
then they all go to the store and buy fresh ingredients. Sam’s favorite
is pizza! He rolls the dough while mom cooks the meat and dad chops the vegetables.
Everyone gets to build their own pizza with all their favorite ingredients.
Then they all get to sit at the dinner table and enjoy the meal they cooked
together!
If you don’t like certain foods… just make them fun to eat!
Use steamed broccoli, mashed potatoes, and shredded cheese to make an enchanted
broccoli forest! Trying foods that look, feel and taste different is part
of the fun! By trying a new food every week, you’ll learn what you
like to eat and what you don’t.
And don’t forget to snack! Snacking is important for Fit Kids who
are always on the go. Make sure you have lots of tasty treats in your backpack
so that you can fuel up throughout the day. Here are some Fit Kid Favorites:
Trail mix (make your own with dried fruit and soy nuts)
Dried fruit or fruit leathers
Celery with peanut butter and raisins
Slices of apple and mozzarella string cheese
Whole grain crackers or rice cakes with peanut butter
Popcorn
Protein bars
Dry cereal or granola
Baby carrots
